Celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsey 2011 reality TV series Masterchef sizzles?
[Jun. 12]
Celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsey, whose favorite F word is fundraising (for charity), returned to prime time in June of 2011 with the season two premiere of his Fox reality cooking show MasterChef. Well known for his rants and heavy use of bad language in other Fox shows like Hell’s Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares, Chef Ramsay is joined again by Chef Graham Elliot and Chef Joe Bastianich in this reality cooking show. Thousands of amateur chefs traveled to Los Angeles for auditions and offered up their signature dishes to Ramsay, Elliott and Bastianich in hopes their food would earn them a MasterChef apron and a $250,000 cash prize. Contestants were narrowed down to only 100 and the judges were treated to food and home cooks from practically everywhere in America. Starting the season off with a sizzle and pop, one contestant brought his wife out on stage. She proceeded to strip nude and had her culinary hopeful husband place raw fish — sushi and sashimi styles — all over her body. Then, Chef Gordon Ramsay had to use chopsticks to pick the food off the naked girl and eat it. Neither terribly impressed with the publicity stunt or the raw talent of the contestant, Ramsay joked, “This is not the kind of place I want to find a hair in my food.?
The 2011 year MasterChef reality TV contestants have been from all walks of life with careers ranging from attorney, farmer, tattoo artist, model, truck driver and even a UFC cage fighter in training. Chef Graham Elliott has been the kind-hearted one of the judges once again this year, lending words of encouragement for most of the amateur chefs just as he did last season with Chef Joe Batianich remaining the stone faced, hard to read chef though he does deliver his message with passion, reminding contestants not to waste their time. Chef Ramsay has managed to keep his temper in check so far although Gordon has spit out a few less than savory dishes and has even refused to taste one alligator stew during this season’s airing.
Critics of Ramsay’s MasterChef say his cooking show that pit fires contestants against one another in quickfire cook-offs is basically American Idol with food instead of singing. However, the criticism seems to sit just fine with Chef Gordon Ramsay — who says he is a big fan of the popular reality TV singing show and can often be spotted in the American Idol live audience if one looks closely.
